Virginia Commonwealth University, School of the Arts, Branch Campus in
Qatar
VCU-Qatar College of Design Arts will become a formal branch campus of
Virginia Commonwealth University in July 2002, leading to new
administrative and academic positions (including art library
positions). The College began offering courses in 1998, primarily
taught by VCU faculty, leading to U.S. accredited BFA degrees in Interior
Design, Fashion Design, and Graphic Design, a general education program,
and adult extension courses to students from the Gulf region and other
countries. VCU School of the Arts is ranked among the top 20 art
and design programs in the U.S. and maintains identical standards for
VCU-Qatar. A focus of the College is the education and award of
professional design credentials to women in support of Qatar's initiative
to integrate women into the economic structures of the economy.
The College has an 80,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in Doha,
the capital city of Qatar. VCU-Qatar is the first college

and has offered a very hospitable environment for our male and female
personnel. Doha is a modern city with many western influences and a
population of more than 250,000 of which 50% are expatriates.
Approximately 4,000 U.S. citizens live and work in Qatar. English
is the standard second language. The VCU campus has the strong
support of the U.S. Ambassador to Qatar and the U.S. Embassy considers
Qatar among the safest countries in the world for Americans.
The following positions will be available as of 2002-03. These
offer extremely competitive international salaries and benefits,
