GWU- Center for Professional Development, Records and Information Management Program Announces the following classes for April and May 2002 CWRM 405 Digital Preservation: The Long-Term Retention of Electronic Records Today, nearly every organization faces a significant new challenge in its recordkeeping practices -- how to provide for the permanent or long-term preservation of its digital records. This new challenge results from the fact that, during the past five to ten years, virtually all the recordkeeping systems of high strategic importance to the enterprise have been converted from visible to digital media, and many of these have long-term retention requirements. And yet most Information Technology departments have little if any experience with digital preservation methodologies. Digital preservation is equally new to most archivists and records managers, as these professional disciplines have been traditionally concerned with the preservation of physical records. This seminar addresses this new records preservation paradigm. The seminar is designed to provide practical methodologies for how records managers and archivists can work with information systems specialists to meet the digital preservation requirements of the present and future. Location: Washington DC; Dates: April 29 -30, 2002, Time: Monday 8:30am-5:00pm; Tuesday 8:30am-4:00pm, 1.4 CEUs, Cost: $935 Instructor: David Stephens CWRM 864 Advanced Records Management This course discusses document management problems, reviews file organization and indexing principles, and evaluates current approaches to automated document processing.
