LIBRARIAN. Oversee the acquisition, retrieval, preservation, and use of library and archival materials for museum staff and public; supervise library and archives personnel. Select books for acquisition from publishers, antiquarian dealers, and other sources; order books and research materials requested by staff. Administer preservation needs of library and archival material. Conduct research for staff members and the public as requested. Supervise maintenance of on-line information systems and with other library automation issues as necessary. Prepare the annual report of library activities and department budget. Conduct library orientation sessions for graduate classes. Supervision is received from the Chief Curator. Supervision is exercised over library, archives, and visual resource collection personnel, outside researchers, and department volunteers and interns. Requires: Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited school; background in American history and art; minimum five years working library experience (art museum library and rare book collections experience preferred). Familiarity with on-line information retrieval and cataloguing systems, RLIN specifically; demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience; ability to communicate effectively; experience with microform equipment.
