Geometr415 Blk BTReference Librarian – Art and Architecture: The University of Tennessee Libraries seeks an innovative professional to join the Reference & Instructional Services Team and serve as a subject librarian for UT’s College of Architecture & Design and the School of Art. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is part of the Reference and Instructional Services Department, reporting to the Humanities Coordinator, and participating in the work of the department and humanities subject group. The librarian provides general reference assistance and digital reference services in the main (Hodges) library’s busy reference environment (including night and weekend rotation), which includes a government documents reference area and collection. Advanced subject-specific reference assistance and library instructional services are provided to support the curriculum and programs of the College of Architecture & Design, the School of Art, and related disciplines that have art or architecture components. The librarian assists in liaison and outreach activities, including on-site consultations within the College of Architecture & Design and the School of Art. Collection development and management responsibilities include selecting, organizing, and assessing materials in all formats for architecture, interior design, and the visual arts. The librarian serves as the Libraries’ liaison to the faculty and departmental slide collections, and works with the Libraries’ Media Services Librarian on services and collection development related to digital library initiatives and digital image collections. This position promotes services available through the Libraries and facilitates communication with the campus community about library and information issues; works with library colleagues to coordinate services and to implement programs and projects; serves on library and university committees; and engages in professional development and research. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited program. A subject background (architecture, interior design, art, art history, or related disciplines) demonstrated through academic degrees, course work, or library experience. Knowledge of both traditional and electronic information sources in relevant areas. Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues and library patrons. Awareness of issues and trends in public services and collection development for art and architecture librarianship. Commitment to quality user services and outreach activities. Ability to meet university requirements for promotion and tenure. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: An undergraduate or advanced degree in an appropriate area and professional reference experience in a research library environment. Successful teaching and/or library instruction experience. Experience in collection development and in creating and/or maintaining Web resources. Foreign language ability. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Minimum for Assistant Professor, $33,000; for Associate Professor, $40,000. Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Library faculty must meet university requirements for promotion and tenure. Excellent benefits include 24 annual leave days; choice of state retirement plan or TIAA/CREF with nonrefundable contributions paid for the employee by the University; optional group health and life insurance plans; and tuition remission.
