In March, Boydell & Brewer will begin publication of "The Correspondence of Dante Gabriel Rossetti." This is William H. Fredeman's monumental edition of the Correspondence, which has been in preparation for over 25 years and which was originally announced for publication by Cambridge University Press and then Chadwyck-Healey. Rossetti was at the very heart of artistic and cultural endeavor in the Victorian period. Both poet and painter, founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, his correspondents were central figures in both the literary and artistic world. His letters offer an invaluable documentation of Victorian cultural life and thought, as well as providing an insight into both Rossetti's creative process and his critical reception by, and criticism of, his contemporaries. When publication is complete, the Correspondence will comprise nine volumes, divided into three distinct sets, representing different stages in Rossetti's life. March 2002 sees publication of the first two volumes, "The Formative Years", which cover the period 1835-1862. In 2003 the next three volumes, comprising "The Chelsea Years: Prelude to a Crisis" 1863-1872, will appear. And in 2004, the final four volumes, "The Last Decade (1873-1882): Kelmscott to Birchington" will appear. More information on the set, including details of this edition's key features, is available on our website at http://www.boydell.co.uk/dgr1.htm If you would like to receive a leaflet, explaining details of our pre-publication and standing order offers, please let me know by emailing me at [log in to unmask] The Rossetti Correspondence will be an immensely valuable resource for all students and researchers with interests including the art, literature and cultural thought of Victorian England. It will be an important part of any academic or reference library supporting postgraduate research in nineteenth-century culture.
