Joint ARLIS/NA 30th-VRA 20th Annual Conference PUBLIC SPEAKING WITHOUT FEAR & TREMBLING Friday, March 22, 2002 1:00-5:00 p.m. Do you get that queasy feeling at the prospect of having to address a group? Does your heart race before meetings? Does a free-floating paralysis set in when you face a roomful of peers? Do you avoid bibliographic instruction because it requires speaking in public? Do you find that although you know the material, self-consciousness keeps you from speaking as effectively as you would like when you stand in front of a group? The answer to your problems lies in this workshop. Here we will show you how to employ your voice properly, connect more immediately with your audience, and speak more confidently in public. You will assess your speaking style and body language and develop the ability to communicate effectively with your listeners. No previous public speaking experience is necessary. Bring your anxieties and a desire to allay them. Workshop Leader: Pat Wagner, Library Management Consultant, Pattern Research, Denver, Colorado.
