I've deleted the earlier discussion on this topic, and don't remember who
needed the info, but in case it's still of interest, the Dec. 2001 (v.42 #10)
issue of University Affairs/Affaires universitaires (Assoc. of Univs. &
Colleges of Canada), on p.6, has a short article:  "That's Just Plain Ugly"
about the research of a Prof. Robert Gifford, a Univ. of Victoria (BC)
environmental psychologist, who surveyed the lay public & architects'
opinions about their preferences among 42 highrise buildings.  His study
apparently differs from others because he tried to analyse WHY these two
groups disagree about buildings.

Perhaps a search on the Prof's name might find a more detailed report of his
research.
