Try the Diderot encyclopedia. Even the reprint version will help. The actual plates in the originals have been reproduced to scale. You can blow them up on a photocopier and get measured drawings for your own applications. Two jobs ago I was asked for measured drawings of 17th century wheelbarrows, hay rakes and other farm tools/implements of industry. These images were my best source. If my memory serves me well, there are images of high and low warp looms as well as spinning wheels, carding rakes, etc. Hollee Haswell Curator of Columbiana (on leave) Columbia University ----- Original Message ----- From: Michelle L. I'm working on a project tracing the development of the textile arts (spinning, weaving, and other associated tasks) from the Early Middle Ages to roughly 1600. I'm looking for images depicting these activities (Illustrated manuscripts, paintings, carvings, etc.) Any suggestions of where to begin? Thanks! **michelle mcdaniel** Archives of American Art Smithsonian Institution
