Hello,

Elsie, I would like to know more about what you are doing as a public art librarian especially as Broward County has one of the best Public Art programs in the country. Public Art programs worldwide are putting out catalogs and other information which , I think, should be collected by libraries and made available to researchers. What is your collection policy in Broward?

Working in the field of Public Art might interest you. You get to meet fascinating people, connect with contemporary art and artists and contribute to your community. Americans for the Arts sponsors a Public Art list-serve and sometimes advertises jobs, but librarians appear to be better paid and have greater flexibility when it comes to choosing where they live. You don't need a masters degree to work in the field of Public Art but an MILS might help when it comes to organizing your slides.

Best of luck in future.

Hi,

I am also a graduate student at U of S. Florida.
Currently I am a graduate intern at the Broward County
Main Library, acting as a 'public art librarian'. My
goal is to work in a special art library (museum),
academic library as the art librarian or as a public
art librarian.

I too would be interested in a local chapter of
ARLIS/NA, though with school and work it may be too
much for me. What do we do from here? I have yet to
participate in ARLIS/NA meetings or conferences.

And say, is it true that there are jobs for me in
museums without an MA in art history? I do plan on
getting a certificate or other degree in art admin....

Thanks,
Elise
