I am happy to announce a new instructional Website, sponsored by
Southwest Project, has been created. "Architecture and Urbanism of the
Southwest," an essay by John Messina AIA, Research Architect, Southwest
Studies and the UA College of Architecture.
http://www.elearn.arizona.edu/adobe

"Architecture and Urbanism of the Southwest" is the first substantial
addition in Architecture to the _Defining the Southwest_ Website. (see
http://www.library.arizona.edu/definingsw/) In addition to John
Messina's original essays, the site includes many images from slides
that John has shot in Mexico. Among the most interesting is a sequence
of images of an "adobero," adobe maker, demonstrating how adobe bricks
are produced.

John's essay spans the Pre-Hispanic Period to the present and features
sections entitled: "Adobe," "Courtyard," and "Town Making." It also
provides a recommended readings list of books and articles. Within the
_Defining the Southwest's_ "Explorations and Questions" section are four
questions that John provides to guide students and other visitors
through a better understanding of the subject.
