"Architecture and Urbanism of the Southwest," an essay by John Messina AIA, Research Architect, Southwest Studies and the UA College of Architecture. http://www.elearn.arizona.edu/adobe "Architecture and Urbanism of the Southwest" is the first substantial addition in Architecture to the _Defining the Southwest_ Website. (see http://www.library.arizona.edu/definingsw/) In addition to John Messina's original essays, the site includes many images from slides that John has shot in Mexico. Among the most interesting is a sequence of images of an "adobero," adobe maker, demonstrating how adobe bricks are produced. John's essay spans the Pre-Hispanic Period to the present and features sections entitled: "Adobe," "Courtyard," and "Town Making." It also provides a recommended readings list of books and articles. Within the _Defining the Southwest's_ "Explorations and Questions" section are four questions that John provides to guide students and other visitors through a better understanding of the subject. -- Stuart Glogoff U of A Office of Distributed Learning Room 337 Computer Center Tucson, AZ 85721-0073 (520) 626-5347 FAX (520) 626-8220 __________________________________________________________________ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask] Administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask] ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/arlis-l.html Questions may be addressed to list owner (Kerri Scannell) at: [log in to unmask]
