COPY CATALOGER DUMBARTON OAKS RESEARCH LIBRARY Function: Performs copy cataloging for a distinguished library (approximately 178,000 volumes) with world-renowned collections in Byzantine and medieval studies, garden history and landscape architecture, and Pre-Columbian studies. Reports to Head Cataloger. Cataloging and associated authority work are done using SIRSI, HOLLIS, and OCLC, following Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition, revised (AACR2r), MARC, and Library of Congress policy and classification scheme. A new library facility is being designed with completion expected in 2004. Duties: 1. Performs copy cataloging in a variety of languages for monographic and non-print materials following current national standards for bibliographic description, authorities work, and subject analysis. 2. Maintains quality control procedures for cataloging and processing of materials. 3. Assists with bar-coding project, revising bibliographic and item records as needed. 4. Participates in library's reclassification project. 5. Prepares material for serials cataloging by Harvard University Library CONSER office. 6. Performs related duties as needed. Qualifications: Required: Library experience involving use of an integrated library system (academic or research library preferred). Strong computer skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to successfully contribute to an evolving work situation requiring flexibility and versatility. Preferred: Cataloging experience. Reading knowledge of foreign languages. BA in humanities field. Grade 52: salary range $26,200-33,000. 35-hour work week. Excellent benefits.
