Hi all- while Daniel was at the Mountain West Chapter in Las Vegas, I was enjoying the hospitality of the ARLIS/SE Chapter in South Florida! It was a wonderful meeting coordinated by Roberto Ferrari and his committee Pedro Figueredo, Paula Manrique, Jim Findlay, Michelle Millet, Blanche Nonoo, Heather Payne, Maria Treadwell, Teresa Van Dyke, and Anthony Verdesca and ARLIS/SE Pres. Natalia Lonchyna. On Thurs. Nov. 8 a festive group enjoyed drinks and hors d'oevres at the waterfront, renovated Riverwalk. Friday we learned who were the winners of the LoPresti Award introduced by Chair Moira Steven. We also enjoyed a tour of the Bienes Center for the Literary Arts with Jim Findlay who also co-sponsored a delicious lunch with SEFLIN (Southeast Florida Library Information Network). We then had tours of the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Fri. night was a nighttime cruise on the "Jungle Queen" viewing the extraordinary homes on the New River and Intracoastal. Saturday we all went to Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton where we were treated to a continental breakfast sponsored by the University of South Florida SLIS and a demonstration of Art Bibliographies Modern by CSA who also generously sponsored luncheon. There was also a tour of the Mata & Arthur Jaffe Books as Aesthetic Objects Collection at FAU by Arthur Jaffe and a slide and video presentation on "The Lost Wooden Synagogue of Eastern Europe" by Albert M. Barry. In the afternoon we had a fascinating lecture by Dr. Don Curl on Florida architect Addison Mizner and were free to shop at Mizner Park. It was a fantastic meeting that was enjoyed by all- my thanks to the ARLIS/SE Chapter for a wonderful Florida experience!
