Geometr415 Blk BTVisual Resource Collection Director Geometr415 Blk BT POSITION DESCRIPTION: The VRC Director oversees all services, policies and procedures related to the Department's collection of visual materials, including slides, digital images, and video recordings. The Director maintains and develops the collection and is responsible for envisioning and implementing strategies that take full advantage of new technologies for accessing and utilizing visual material. The Director reports to the Department of Architecture Chair and works closely with the School's Associate Dean of Information Technology, the School's Applied Arts Librarian, Architecture and Planning faculty members, and peers in related disciplines. The Director should be both a leader and a collaborator. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS degree, and/or subject-related M,A., B.Arch or M. Arch. or equivalent experience. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and initiate change. Knowledge of new technologies and standards for cataloging, storing, and disseminating images. Good general knowledge of architectural history, technology and urban design. Good communication skills. DESIRABLE: A record of achievement as a manager of a visual resources collection. Knowledge of Microsoft Access 97 and 2000 software, HTML authoring tools, technologies related to image scanning, archiving and dissemination, copy-stand photography methods, awareness of issues surrounding copyright and fair use of visual materials for teaching and research. Active participation in professional organizations.
