Two posts I'm forwarding from the UK's JISC Digital Preservation
listserv, that may be of interest: a very short piece on Digital
Archival Repositories in a recent issue of the Economist magazine,
and the announcement of a webpage produced by the National Library of
the Netherlands to report on work it has commissioned on long-term
digital preservation.

fwd: message to the list from Debbie Woodyard BL:

A new web site you will be interested in:

The National Library of the Netherlands (KB, Koninklijke Bibliotheek) has
commissioned research into long term preservation techniques as part of
their current agreement with IBM, and have formed a year long working group
to carry out the study. Jeff Rothenberg and The British Library have also
been invited to attend the meetings of the KB/IBM Long Term Preservation
(LTP) working group.

An outline of the work of the group and a presentation on some of the
concepts used, such as the Preservation Layer Model, are now available on
the web at:
http://www.kb.nl/kb/ict/dea/ltp/ltp-en.html

The study is scheduled to finish at the end of the year and will produce a
final report that is expected to be made available on this site also.

Regards,
Deborah
