Another approach is to code the first indicator in the 033 with the value 1
indicating multiple single dates and record both dates in the same 033.
From the MARC21 manual:

1 - Multiple single dates
Value 1 indicates that the date information consists of more than one single
date. Two consecutive dates are considered multiple single dates.

Hi Marianne,

Can you record both dates? (i.e. Is 033 a repeatable field?) If so, I'd
record both dates and make a general note (500) that the date of the sale
was changed after the release of the catalog. If this is not possible, I
would record the actual sale date in the 033 and make a 500 note in regards
to the date change. In both instances I would also make sure the catalog
was hand corrected with the correct date of sale.

Good Luck!

Lori

Subject: Auction catalog sale date discrepancies

Hello everyone,

We are just starting to catalog auction catalogs into SCIPIO whos sale dates
were changed due to the WTC attack.

We know the date the sale was actually held, but the record in SCIPIO have
the original sale date coded into the 033, most without even a note of the
actual sale date.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this?

Thanks,
