All ARLIS/NA Friends,

Harold P. Peterson, Head Librarian of The Minneapolis Institute of Arts
Library
for almost 28 years, retired in April. His expertise, love for the written
word
have been well expressed in this library as well as the art museum libraries
across the nation. His list of accomplishments have included starting an
active
library catalogue exchange which has helped increase the holdings in many =
art
libraries here and abroad. A number of generous patrons have enabled this
library to hold many rare books, and books which have augmented the =
collections
in the galleries. In fact, some of the same books which guided these
collectors
early in the past century have come to the library. We continue to benefit =
from
the warm relationships of donors who quietly drop off wonderful books they =
have
purchased in their world travels.

More than a librarian, never an information specialist, Hal was a curator of
nearly fifty library exhibitions. Art, the study of art and collection of =
art
continue to be the guiding features of his art librarianship. For many =
years,
he was also the editor of many MIA publications. Many of you will remember =
him
from his active participation in ARLIS. In the early 90's he was chairman =
of
the George Wittenborn Memorial Award Committee.

Hal continues to reside in Minneapolis. He would love to still be here in =
the
library, but his bout with Multiple Sclerosis has been difficult. He has a =
lot
of friends and any who wish to correspond with him can be certain that his =
mail
will be forwarded to him if you send it to me at the library.
