A little early perhaps, but there are a few listings for Sargent in Art sales from early in the eighteenth century to early in the twentieth century : (mostly old master and early English pictures) / by Algernon Graves (London, 1918-21) 3 vols. and a few for both Sargent and Cassat in Dictionnaire des ventes d'art faites en France et à l'étranger pendant les XVIIIme & XIXme siècles : tableaux, dessins, estampes, aquarelles, miniatures, pastels, gouaches, sépias, fusains, emaux, eventails peints & vitraux / H. Mireur. Imprint Paris : Maison d'Editions d'OEuvres artistiques, Ch. de Vincenti, 1911-1912 7 vols. Other important sources, similar to Art Prices Current (1908-73) mentioned previously, are the World Collectors' Annuary (1946-present?), and the Kunstpreisverzeichnis/Art Price Annual/Kunstpreisjahrbuch (1940-present); and of course the invaluable web version of Art Sales Index, the only online source for early-20th c. sales results. Artprice.com (aka ADEC) seems also to be planning to include such historical data, but I haven't seen it yet. If anyone out there has more information about that I would love to hear it. The earliest data that has been found is from 1987, which reflects only the prices these artists command in a mature market. As the research continues, searches would expand from Cassatt and Sargent to American impressionists and late 19th century European artists. Information desired includes: title of painting, dimensions, media, year painted, year sold, auction house, price estimates, and hammer price. Does anyone know where we should start looking? Any help would be most appreciated. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo!
