On Tuesday, September 25, the Washington College of Law's new Program on 
Intellectual Property and thePublic Interest will host a "Future of Music Colloquium" to explore the 
organization of the contemporary music industry and its implications for artists and listeners.  At 6:00 PM, Jenny Toomey, independent musician and founder of the Future of Music Coalition (www.futureofmusic.org), will 
present an illustrated "behind-the-scenes" tour of the contemporary music industry from the artist's perspective, touching on new technologies, copyright issues, and recording contracts, among many other 
topics.  Following this presentation -- which Ms. Toomey will be soon be taking on a national campus tour -- a panel of experts will discuss a wide range of  topics including media concentration, Napster and other 
peer-to-peer file sharing technologies, the future of fair use, recording industry economics, and artists' rights.  In addition to WCL faculty members, a number of  outside experts will participate:  those invited 
include Ann Chaitovitz, National Director of Sound Recordings, American Federation of Television and Recording Artists;  Andrew Schwartzman, Media Access Project; Bill Holland, Washington Bureau Chief, Billboard 
Magazine;  entertainment lawyer Jay Rosenthal of Berliner, Corcoran & Rowe; and Michael M. Bracy, of Bracy Williams and Co., a eloquent advocate of low-power radio.

A reception will precede the program at 5:00 PM.  The event is free, and everyone is invited!  All activities will be in and around Room 603 at the Washington College of Law, 4801 Massachusetts Ave., N.W.
