is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition:

"REEFS, WRECKS AND RASCALS: THE LEGACY OF THE SPANISH MAIN"
September 15, 2001-January 6, 2002

The exhibitioin features 61 books, manuscripts and facsimiles from the collections of the Jay I. Kislak Foundation of Miami Lakes, FL. Developed in cooperation with the Bienes Center, the exhibit offers a look at historic accounts of New World piracy in the 16th and 17th centuries.  The exhibit items chronicle the colorful adventures of famous priates and buccaneers who roamed the Caribbean Sea and American coastline, attacking and plundering Spanish ships carrying treasures from the Americas back to Europe.

Established in 1984, the Jay I. Kislak Foundation is a private nonprofit institution established to foster greater understanding of the cultures and history of the Americas, with particular emphasis on Florida, the Caribbean and Mesoamerica.
