The best source I've found for decorative arts is artfact.com, which also includes the visual arts and photography, though they do lean more on the decorative arts side (they are building on the visual arts side and it does include the most current sales). However, it has been a great resource for our Decorative Arts Curator and Curator of Glass. I've also found many obscure artists that are not in Who Was Who in American Art, Benezit, Saur, Thieme-Becker, Mallett, Havlice, Bryan's, Art Index, ADEC and/or the usual printed sources, though there is generally little biographical information (though locating the auction house or gallery can be of use as well).

re: James Mitchell's comments. I too would be interested in learning
more about artprice.com from users. I am interested in the decorative
arts and auction databases for that area are scarce - thank you,
Christel
