Here's the announcement of the American Craft Council's new online
catalog. Please excuse cross postings--we're pretty excited about the
whole thing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a major step toward making the resources of the American Craft
Council Library more widely known, the catalog of the library’s holdings
is now accessible for reference at the Council’s Web site,
www.craftcouncil.org. The Council has been supported in this project
through a challenge grant from Marvin Danto, an honorary trustee of the
Council, and his wife, Betty.

The catalog documents a collection comprising some 5,500 books, 5,400
exhibition catalogs, periodicals and videos on contemporary American
craft as well as such related fields as design and applied and
decorative arts. All craft media---clay, fiber, glass, metal and
wood---are represented in the collection, which is focused on the
development of the craft movement in America in the years following the
Second World War. Individual artists, the history of the field,
processes and materials are covered in depth.

Instructions for using the catalog are available on the search page and
by clicking Help. If a researcher encounters problems with a search, the
library staff can be contacted for assistance
([log in to unmask]).

The library has been a major program of the Council since the 1950s,
when it opened as a reading room in the Council’s headquarters on West
53rd Street, then also the site of the Museum of Contemporary Crafts.
Greatly expanded, the library is now a prominent feature of the Council
headquarters, located since 1990 in New York’s SoHo district. Council
members and the public may visit the library Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday from 1 to 5 pm and Tuesday 1 to 7 pm.
