FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Women's Studio Workshop, (845) 658-9133 OPPORTUNITIES AT WOMEN'S STUDIO WORKSHOP WSW is an artist-run studio located in Rosendale, New York, 90 miles north of New York City. Facilities include printmaking, papermaking, artist's books, photography, letterpress, offset and ceramic. Our programs are designed to support artists in the various stages of their careers. To that end we offer grant and fellowship opportunities, intensive workshops, internships and studio rentals. ____________________________________________________________________________ _ ARTIST'S FELLOWSHIPS Fellowship opportunities are available in water-based screen printing, intaglio, photography, papermaking, letterpress and ceramic. Fellowship awards are designed to provide artists with concentrated work time to explore new ideas in a dynamic and cooperative community of women artists, in a rural environment. Fellows have unlimited 24-hour access to the studio of their choice, and may work in two- to six-week sessions from September through June. Fellowship awards subsidize a portion of the studio operating expenses. The cost to fellowship recipients is $200 per week plus materials, (about one-fifth the actual cost of the fellowship), and includes on-site housing. Fellowships are awarded through a jury process. SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR CLAY ARTISTS A limited number of special scholarships are available to potters who can trade bowls for time. Each year, WSW hosts a Chili Bowl Fiesta fund raiser, and to help with bowl production we are offering fellowships at half price. Fifty glazed bowls or 100 bisqued bowls plus $200 covers a two-week residency. Please indicate on your application that you are interested in this opportunity. TO APPLY: Send a resume, six to ten slides of your work, purpose of residency, proposed dates and length of fellowship, studio requested and an SASE for return of materials. An application is available on our Web site, www.wsworkshop.org, or call (845) 658-9133. DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked by November 1, 2001 for March June, 2002 fellowships. Working intensively in our studios for six weeks, selected artists are involved in all aspects of the design and production of their piece. The grant includes a stipend of $1,800 for six weeks, materials up to $450 and access to all studios. On-site housing is provided for visiting artists. Each artist is responsible for meals, but on weekdays, everyone gathers for a pot-luck lunch. ARTISTS' BOOKS PRODUCTION GRANTS Production Grants are for artists working off-site. The grant is designed to assist artists working in their own studios with the publication of smaller scale projects. Funds cover production costs up to $1,000. This grant is not intended for reissuing already published material. If used as partial funding for a larger project, proof of the additional funds will be required. TO APPLY: Applicants should submit a one-page description of the project, the media to be used to print the book, number of pages, page size, edition size (at least 100 copies preferred), a structural dummy, materials budget, resume, 6 to 10 slides of recent work and an S.A.S.E. for return of materials.
