Geometr415 Blk BTMUSIC and FINE ARTS LIBRARIAN Bates College Information and Library Services is seeking a Music and Arts Librarian. This position offers the opportunity to meet the library and information needs of the music and arts programs with creativity and imagination. This person builds and manages collections in music, including sound recordings, art, art history, film studies, theater, communication, and rhetoric. Acts as liaison with faculty members and others in these subject areas. Develops and delivers instruction programs in music and the arts as a part of the library and technology instruction program of the department. Catalogs music materials. Helps with coverage at the Reference Desk. Acts as resource person for technologies related to music and the arts, and actively participates in development of projects and services using digital technology in these areas. Required qualifications include a Master's degree in library or information science or equivalent combination of education and experience, three years of library experience, and an undergraduate degree in music or the arts or equivalent expertise. Evidence of thorough understanding of issues related to music and arts librarianship, including audio and video technologies, and demonstrated knowledge of cataloging and classification, including formats related to music and sound recordings are also required. Applicants must have a strong service orientation and demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with others. Advanced degree in music or other area related to assignment, and experience in academic libraries are desired.
