Since other ARLIS/NA members are sharing their responses to Ted regarding the upcoming slate of candidates, I thought I would share mine as well. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 10:42:30 -0500 (EST) From: "b.j. irvine" <[log in to unmask]> To: Ted Goodman <[log in to unmask]> Ted, when I chaired the Nominating Committee several years ago, I had a similar problem and we contacted an enormous no. of individuals before I was able to fulfill the requirement of two candidates per office. At that time, I sent a report to the Board and strongly recommended that we change this practice. I think your acceptance of Sherman's slate is right on target. As he may have said and was also my experience, we lose many people just because they do not want to run AGAIN for office and face the likelihood of losing. We actually lose many potential candidates for this very reason notwithstanding the demands of being on the Board--surely, only a small way to serve a Society that has given each of us so much but it is still a significant contribution for a member to make. Thanks for making this decision. bj B. J.
