Hello All,

Two new electronic facsimiles have been added to the Digital Library for
the Decorative Arts and Material Culture at
http://decorativearts.library.wisc.edu

George Brookshaw's A New Treatise on Flower Painting: Or Every Lady her
Own Drawing Master was published in London in 1818. Brookshaw began his
career as a cabinetmaker, specializing in painted furniture. The floral
themes of his furniture decoration are clearly echoed in this
instructional manual. The source text for this digital facsimile is
owned by the Chipstone Foundation. A copy of the same edition is held in
the Department of Special Collections, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Libraries.

The Practical House Carpenter by William Pain is an architectural
pattern book, which, along with his other works, helped popularize the
Adams Style in Great Britain and America during the late eighteenth and
early nineteenth centuries. This text, originally published in London
and later in Boston, went through many editions. For the electronic
facsimile, we used the 1792 fourth edition from the Chipstone Foundation
collection.

With the electronic pageturner, users of the Web site can browse more
than 750 digital facsimiles of color plates and text or they may search
for specific terms and pages. The page images are accessible in three
sizes: one for quick browsing, another suitable for printing, and a
third for examining fine details.

I hope you find this resource useful. Please feel free to contact me
with comments or questions.

Thanks,
Cate Cooney
