The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, which enjoys a worldwide reputation as an
outstanding center of modern art, is seeking a forward-thinking and
experienced leader to direct its G. Robert Strauss, Jr. Memorial Library,
which has a non-circulating collection of more than 32,000 titles,
including monographs, exhibition catalogues, journals, artists' books,
and a small rare book collection as well as extensive archives. This
position is responsible for managing an outstanding service-oriented,
quality reference and research library that fulfills the needs of our
Curatorial, Education and Publication departments and provides staff,
volunteers and visitors with accessible, comprehensive information on art
history and the Gallery's collection.
Working under the broad direction of the Chief Information Officer your
duties would include managing a service-oriented staff; working closely
with Curatorial, Education and Publication staff to ensure the quality
and integrity of their respective research and publications; working with
the Information Technology staff on the ongoing installation of
Endeavor's Voyager OPAC system and on other projects involving online
access, digital imaging and systems integration; maintaining and
developing outreach programs which integrate with programming at the
Gallery; developing and recommending policies, procedures and systems, as
well as long- and short-term plans for the library and its usage.
Qualifications include an ALA accredited MLS degree, BA in art history
preferred, at least five years of progressively responsible work
experience in art library administration, supervisory and budget
management experience, effective written and verbal communication skills
with demonstrated success in interacting collaboratively with internal
and external constituencies, a high level of skill working with new
technologies, ability and desire to propose, obtain funding for, and
manage new projects as well as a good working knowledge of preservation
and a sound understanding of archival principles.
