This is an exciting opportunity to work with the faculty and students of the university, the College of Architecture, Art & Planning, and the Department of the History of Art to build the visual collections and to provide electronic access to them. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in the administration of the Cornell University's collection of 450,000 slides, videos, and digital images of architecture, fine arts and functional arts. Assist in the development and implementation of text and image databases to manage and provide access to the collections. Initiate collection development. Research and catalog new material. Train and supervise the unit's staff employees and student assistants. Provide reference assistance and user orientation. In collaboration with the Director and the Systems Administrator work with the faculty to implement and integrate digital technologies into the teaching and research programs of the University. QUALIFICATIONS: MA in art or architectural history with library or visual resources experience, or M.L.I.S. with undergraduate major in art or architectural history, or equivalent necessary. Must have a reading knowledge of two foreign languages. Working knowledge of library systems (cataloging techniques, circulation, database and computer applications), as well as digital imaging technologies, HTML and current trends necessary. Experience with audio-visual and photographic equipment, and a working knowledge of basic photographic techniques and procedures highly desirable. Must be able to work independently under pressure and must be able to solve problems creatively. Must be well organized and highly motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. HIRING SALARY: $30,420 minimum; actual salary will depend on experience. Position is available immediately; application deadline is August 31, 2001.
