----------------------------Original message---------------------------- I am writing to let you know and to seek advice about the Museum of Contemporary Art's decision to reduce the library's staffing to a one day a week position. The reason given is a tight fiscal year caused by several additional exhibitions. I can't seem to make administration realize that those exhibitions generate a lot of research needs on the part of the curatorial staff. I'm the only one here to provide that service. I spoke with the assistant director today and he has asked me to justify keeping the position. What I'm asking for is help from a few institutions that we see as similar to ourselves. In particular, the Walker Art Center, SFMOMA, LAMOCA and the Whitney, to provide some details on where the library falls in your organization's hierarchy, staff size and if posssible a ballpark budget amount. Thanks in advance for your help. Dennis McGuire Librarian Museum of Contemporary Art 220 E.
