Geometr415 Blk BTREFERENCE COORDINATOR AND INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN (Librarian I or II) The MIT Libraries seek a creative and enthusiastic individual to lead the reference and information services in Rotch Library for Architecture and Planning and to participate in system-wide efforts to ensure the excellence of these services. RESPONSIBILITIES: With general supervision of the Rotch Associate Head Librarian, develops innovative programs and coordinates the information services of four professional librarians and five members of the support staff who handle users' questions at the Library Services Desk. Maintains and participates in the desk schedule and provides extensive reference assistance by appointment. Serves as Rotch representative on the Libraries' Reference Committee, which stimulates system-wide, high-level information services for the MIT community. As Instruction Librarian, leads staff in creating and enhancing instructional services in art, architecture, and urban planning and serves on the Libraries’ Instruction Committee to help develop services in the basic use of the Libraries' catalog and online databases. Serves as subject specialist responsible for developing and managing one or more of the Rotch collection areas and for creating subject web pages in his/her specialization. Oversees content of Rotch web pages, and, together with a technical support person, makes sure they are up-to-date and provide relevant and useful information. QUALIFICATIONS: Required ALA-MLS/MLIS. Substantial, demonstrated experience in providing reference/information services. Experience inlibrary instruction and in integrating new technologies in the delivery of information, reference, or instruction. Experience working effectively and comfortably in a team and/or collegial environment. Solid knowledge of current trends and issues in reference and instruction services. Familiarity with relevant databases, Windows, the Internet, and web-page construction and maintenance. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills. A record of creativity, initiative, and innovation, and the ability to tolerate ambiguity. Evidence of increasing levels of professional contribution. Knowledge of literature sources in art, architecture, and/or urban studies/social sciences. (Three years professional experience and demonstrated professional growth and service in keeping with MIT Libraries’ standards for promotion are required for appointment at Librarian II level.) Preferred academic degree in art, architecture, or urban studies/social sciences. HIRING SALARY: $36,000 minimum (Librarian I); $41,000 minimum (Librarian II). Appointment level and actual salary will depend on experience. Position available immediately.
