Asian Art Bibliographer in the Fine Arts Library

Reporting to the Fine Arts Collection Management Librarian, the Asian Art
Bibliographer is responsible for Asian art printed collections in the Fine
Arts Library, including the Rübel Asiatic Research Collection.  Selects
materials on East and South Asian art and architecture for Fine Arts,
including Rübel, in all languages.  Maintains regular communication with
Asian art faculty and curators.   Communicates regularly with selectors in
other libraries about acquisitions matters. Formalizes collecting policy
and initiates approval plans. Assesses the strength of collections and
searches for appropriate out-of-print materials. Monitors budgets and plans
for special purchases.  Has primary responsibility for training and
supervision of technical processing students/casual assistants. Responsible
for both short-and long-range planning for the housing, preservation and
storage issues relating to the Asian collections of the Fine Arts Library.
Under the direction of the Fine Arts Head Cataloger, catalogs Chinese
language materials for the Rübel Collection, including both copy and
original cataloging.  Coordinates processing workflow of Rübel materials.
Provides reference assistance in the Rübel Collection and bibliographic
instruction for Asian art courses. Participates Harvard library activities
and projects as needed.  

Qualifications: MLS or equivalent experience.  Minimum two years
professional experience working in research libraries. Excellent knowledge
of Chinese and reading knowledge of Japanese required.  Graduate level
training in Asian art and knowledge of publication trends in Asian art
publishing highly desirable. Experience in online cataloging strongly
preferred.

 Appointment salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
