Along with a number of other ARLIS/NA members, we in recent years have
perceived the usefulness of an interest group within ARLIS/NA devoted to
managerial issues.
Such a group -- if formed -- would support members employed as middle- or
upper-level managers and provide them with opportunities to increase their
skills specifically in the area of management. It might hold real-time or
virtual discussions, encourage research, sponsor conference sessions,
organize workshops, or undertake a mentoring program, etc. Such activities,
like the interest group itself, would also be open to ARLIS/NA members not
currently employed in a managerial capacity but who may wish to pursue a
management career in the future. It might be especially attractive to
those art librarians who see themselves moving at some point out of art
libraries into the management of the larger organizations of which many
art libraries form a part.
If you would like to be involved in organizing such an interest group, please
join us in the lobby of the conference hotel in Los Angeles at 9 AM, Sunday,
April 1.
The purpose of this meeting will be to gauge the extent of interest in the
group we have imagined, and if the interest seems strong enough to begin the
process of seeking official recognition of it.
Please consider joining us!
