WE bought a Xerox Bookmark 21 copier 2 years ago. It is low volume- 21 copies per minute and has an angled platen to support the spines of material being copied. If something is very tightly bound it is still problematic getting into the margins- but an improvement over copiers with flat platens-definitely easier on the books. The quality of copies are excellent- even has an enhancement for copying photos and can handle ledger paper. The purchase price was $3900- with no bells and whistles (i.e. automatic feed, sorter, coin machine etc.) Duplexing must be done by hand. It works fine for our needs and we've been very happy with it. By archival, we mean a copier that is kinder to book spines - where the books go over the edge of the machine (I know I'm not describing this very well, I hope you all know what I mean!) I never dreamed we would have the budget for such a thing, so I've never done any research. In general, how much do these babies cost? At the moment, all we need is a ballpark figure for the budget - then I can start looking in earnest. If anyone out there in ARLIS land has one of these, some quick general cost info would be great. Thanks so much!
