The following message, posted earlier to the RLG-SCIPIO listserv, may also
be of interest to ARLIS/NA colleagues:

A draft version of the SCIPIO Cataloging Guide, 2001 Edition, is now
available for review and comment at:

http://www.rlg.org/aag/scipiocatguide.html

The new guide, written by the RLG-SCIPIO Advisory Taskforce, is intended to
bring SCIPIO cataloging practices into much greater conformance with
mainstream MARC21/AACR2 standards. The changes introduced in this edition
are discussed in more detail in the February, 2001, issue of RLG Focus:
http://www.rlg.org/r-focus/i48scipio.html

The Taskforce has established a target date of June 1, 2001, for adoption
and implementation of the new guide by the SCIPIO cataloging community,
following a review and comment period that commences with this announcement.
The new practices and their implications will also be discussed in detail at
the annual SCIPIO Users Group Meeting, to be held as part of the ARLIS/NA
conference in Los Angeles on 3 April 2001.

Please study the new guide carefully, and if you have any suggestions,
questions or problems, please let us know -- email Deborah Kempe
<[log in to unmask]> or Tony Gill <[log in to unmask]>.
