Under direction of the Librarian of the Fine Arts Library, manages all
areas of the Slides and Digital Image Collections in the Fine Arts
Library
of Harvard College Library, including collection development,
cataloging,
and user services. Collections include 750,000 35-mm. slides and a
growing
number of digital images covering all areas of Western and non-Western
art
and architecture. It is the principal teaching resource for twenty
faculty
in the History of Art and Architecture Department plus curators in the
Harvard University Art Museum and faculty in the Visual and
Environmental
Studies Program. Annual accession rate is approximately 20,000 slides.
Supervises 10 FTE (professional and support staff), plus students and
part-time employees. Reviews and initiates all policies and procedures.
Establishes collegial relations with faculty and staff to encourage use
of
the collections. Works with faculty and the University's Instructional
Computing Group to acquire, deliver and maintain images required for
course
web sites. Develops new programs for access to slides and electronic
resources. Leads design and implementation of new rapid response
workflow
procedures. Oversees on-going cataloging and development of OLIVIA,
Harvard's cataloging system for visual resources. Is responsible for
maintaining current strengths and developing additional subject areas
in
the slide collection. Has specific collection development
responsibility
for department's digital core image collection, both licensing and
production. Works with the Library's Book Collections Public Services
staff
to assure integration of public services. Works with users to assure
compliance with Copyright and Fair Use statutes.
Qualifications: Six to seven years of administrative experience in
visual
resources collections required. Art history credentials strongly
preferred.
ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent preferred. Demonstrated ability
to
provide leadership and supervision, set priorities, resolve competing
demands amid rapid change; excellent interpersonal skills; experience
with
large scale digital imaging projects.

Appointment salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
