CAA CONFERENCE TO FEATURE
DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR'S SESSION
THURSDAY, MARCH 1, 2001

College Art Association's (CAA) 89th Annual Conference
at the Chicago Hilton and Towers (720 South Michigan
Avenue) Feb. 28 - March 3, 2001, will feature the
first in a series of "Distinguished Scholar's Sessions,"
Thursday, March 1, from 2:30 - 5 p.m. in the International
Ballroom South.

The Session will be devoted to James S. Ackerman, Arthur
Kingsley Porter Professor of Fine Arts, emeritus, at
Harvard University.  Ackerman will open the Session with
"On Old and New Histories of Art," a talk about how the
field of art history has evolved since his days as a
student in the 1940s.

The Session panel, chaired by Joseph Connors, Columbia
University, will include: Caroline A Jones, Boston
University; Patricia Emison, University of New Hampshire;
Robert Nelson, University of Chicago; and Ingrid Rowland,
American Academy in Rome and the Getty Research Institute.
The panelists will respond to Ackerman's paper.

"This is the first in a series of sessions devoted to the
work of senior scholars in art history," said CAA Conference
Director Emmanuel Lemakis.  "We look forward to hearing
from a great mind who has left an indelible mark on the
field in a career spanning 50 years."
