There will be tours of the new library and of the current exhibition, "Women Designers in the USA, 1900-2000: Diversity and Difference," as well as a reception. WHEN: February 22nd, Thursday SCHEDULE OF EVENING EVENTS: 4:45 - 5:15 at 38 West 86th Street: Tour the new library facilities in the library's new location 5:30 - 6:15 at 18 West 86th Street: Private tour of current exhibition "Women Designers in the USA, 1900-2000" with project director Dr. Pat Kirkham, a senior faculty member at BGC 6:00-8:00 at 18 West 86th Street: Ongoing reception and tours of exhibition with BGC graduate students EXHIBITION: "Women Designers in the USA, 1900-2000: Diversity and Difference" is on view in the new exhibition galleries of the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Culture and Design. The exhibition features approximately 220 items by women working from the earliest years of the century through the year 2000. Culled from a wide variety of private and public collections, the exhibition celebrates and showcases the achievements of women designers giving equal consideration to all aspects of design - from ceramics to cinema, from furniture to fashion, from interiors to industrial products, and from gardens to graphics. Famous designers - Ruth Reeves, Adelaide Robineau, Eva Zeisel, Nampeyo, Maria Martinez, Ray Eames, Florence Knoll, Edith Head, Dorothy Liebes, Clare McCardell, Bonnie Cashin, Lella Vignelli, Elsa Peretti, Donna Karan, Maya Lin - are represented, but attention is also paid to less well-known women. LOCATION: Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Culture and Design is now housed in two buildings on West 86th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.
