                        Tools of the Trade


Is there a better place than LA to learn about resources on film?
"They Never Covered This in Library School: Basic Resources in Costume,
Art Direction, Film, and Artists' Videos" is the ideal workshop for
inquiring minds. The workshop will cover both print and electronic
resources needed to research films, and video collections.  The
development of both the feature film industry and the new Time Art will
be described, the strengths and weaknesses of specific tools discussed,
and collection development strategies laid out.  Preservation, storage,
and space planning issues for these media will also be addressed.  The
workshop is being held at the Fashion Institute of Design and
Merchandising Resource and Research Center.

in them at all or you want to learn more this is a session you do NOT
want to miss. "Insourcing: Buying Artist Books directly from the
Artist" will not only provide you with excellent information on
acquiring these materials but where else will you find Terry
Braunstein, Gloria Helfgott, Susan E. King, Katherine Ng, Sue Ann
Robinson, and Beth Thielen all talking book talk and moderated by
Judith Hoffberg to boot?

If you think children's books are just for children you haven't been
looking at them recently.  "A Grown-Up's Guide to Children's Books" is
a session that challenges our perceptions about the role of children's
books in our libraries and in children's lives.
