To members of the Academic Libraries Division: The Academic Libraries Division is scheduled to meet in Los Angeles on Monday, April 2 at 8 a.m. I hope you will be able to join us. The Board has recommended that prior to the LA conference we have some correspondence on the arlis-l on issues such as candidates for division officers and program ideas for the 2002 conference, so that we can free up time at the business meeting for more open discussion of issues relevant to academic libraries. My term as Moderator will end with this conference. Miguel Juarez, our vice-moderator/moderator-elect, will assume the role of moderator. We will need to elect a new vice-moderator/moderator elect, and also an Update column editor. The duties of the Moderator are to preside over the business meeting and, with the advice and consent of the membership, coordinate the Division's conference programs. The Moderator files midyear and annual reports to the Society's Executive Board prior to the Board's meetings, and attends the annual leadership breakfast at the ARLIS/NA conference. The Update column editor is responsible for submitting three columns of interest to academic art librarians per year. There is further information on the ARLIS/NA website under Divisions, Academic Division, Guidelines. I would be happy to answer questions from anyone interested in running for either of the positions. These are a good way to get involved in ARLIS/NA and a great opportunity for professional development. It would also be helpful to have some brainstorming for session ideas by the time of the business meeting. In St. Louis there will be fewer panels, with more emphasis on plenary-type sessions. If you have ideas please send them out to us over ARLIS-L and we can try to firm them up at the business meeting. Please let me know if there are any other issues you wish to discuss at the business meeting. I hope that by taking care of some of this business beforehand we will have more time for discussion this year. I will send out a more detailed agenda closer to conference time. I look forward to hearing from you, Sarah Sarah E.
