Please excuse cross posting.

There is a faculty member here who has a HP ScanJet 4c scanner that is not
working properly. I was wondering if any of you had experience with such
a scanner and whether you could provide me with some information about
your experience operating/repairing said scanner. She outlines the
problem she has been experiencing in the following paragraph:

1. My scanner is a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4c. It has a separate hardware
attachment (measures 23 1/2 x 14 3/4 x 2 1/2) that I place on top of my
scanner bed (measures 4 1/2 x 23 1/2 x 14 3/4) after I remove the scanner
top ( 14 3/4 x 23 1/2 x 1/4") that is used for scanning photos. The part
that does not work to scan slides and transparencies is titled
Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4c/T (for transparencies). A light comes on when I
hook it up but the technician over the phone thought that maybe the light
is getting too weak that it is not recognizing it. The problem is that the
scanner & computer do not recognize the transparency adapter. I have
hardly used it but it did work when I last connected it.

My second question has to do with lantern slides. I know there has been
discussion in the past regarding successful approaches to capturing
lantern slide images. I have searched the ARLIS-L archives unsuccessfully
so if any of you could fill me in on your strategies I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thank you.
