Just a follow up to all who responded: My colleague, thanks to your
suggestions, was able to locate the work he had in mind (man living in
box in museum). Turns out is was British artist Tony Kaye who had
engaged a homeless man named Roger who sat in a transparent cube in San
Francisco's Museum of Modern Art back in 1996. Museum patrons could
question him about being homeless.
