Dear Rod Dew, We do "In" analytics occasionally at NYU, often for departmental libraries, special collections, or our consortial partners (we catalog for Parsons, Cooper Union, and New School). I don't have any problem doing an "In" analytic but know that there are some larger university libraries that refuse. I don't see any reason to do a serial record if we have one issue of a journal because of one article or a thematic special issue. On the other hand, I don't see any reason to do "In" analytics for a serial where we have a run of issues, though some special collections do get occasional analytics of an issue. Overall, most of our "In" analytics are because we have spotty holdings, or are only getting a book because of a single article. We do not do analytics below the volume level for runs of things or festschriften, etc. If you have followup questions, do not hesitate to ask.
