Because of its specialized coverage, our library has in the past classified
and catalogued many offprints, extracts, and special issues of particular
relevance and/or authority. They are often catalogued as monographs and
shelved in the general collection, in a few cases even when a larger run of
the serial is housed elsewhere in the library. An example would be the
classification of an article-length study of an Athenian building to allow
its placement within the Athenian monuments section of the stacks (we use a
local class. system). When the item is just a few pages, it will most
often appear in the catalogue with an abbreviated class. number and the
note that it is boxed with items of similar format, in class order, in a
special area of the stacks.
