The position of Art Documentation Editor will be vacant at the end of 2001 with the resignation of current co-Editors Stephanie Sigala and Betsy Peck Learned. Applications for this position are now being accepted; ARLIS/NA members are also encouraged to submit the names of qualified nominees for this position. Term: Two-year, renewable, commencing July 2001 with a training period. Honorarium: $1,000 per issue; Art Documentation appears twice per year. Informal interviews will be conducted during the 2001 ARLIS Conference in Los Angeles. The deadline for receipt of applications and nominations is Friday, 2 March 2001. JOB DESCRIPTION: ART DOCUMENTATION EDITOR The editor of Art Documentation is responsible for its intellectual content and coordinates all submissions for final publication. In addition, the editor may initiate special articles and theme issues, working with authors to ensure high quality and stimulating content. The editor will work closely with other personnel in the production of each issue of Art Documentation: a copy editor who edits the manuscripts and proofs the galleys, the production manager of ARLIS/NA Headquarters and the book review editor. The editor is expected to attend the annual ARLIS/NA conference. Duties: 1. Solicits special articles and develops theme issues for Art Documentation a. Works with authors and guest editors to ensure high quality and appropriate content b. Coordinates review of articles by outside readers, when appropriate c. Accepts or rejects unsolicited manuscripts as appropriate 2. Edits copy as necessary for style and coherency to prepare it for final editing a. Communicates with authors to discuss their work and the recommended changes b. Obtains from authors any necessary components of the publication (illustrations, footnotes, permissions, etc.) that have not been submitted c. Provides preliminary galleys to authors for proof reading d. Forwards journal contents to copy editor for final editing e. Adheres to production deadlines for each issue in order to insure journal is published on time 3. Writes editor’s column and creates table of contents for each issue 4. Reviews production galleys and forwards corrections according to established timeline 5. Maintains and updates the Art Documentation production manual 6.
