Description and Position Number: LIBRARY ASSISTANT II (00-11-024) Position Category: CLERICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE Department: History of Art Salary Range: $1,953 - $2,294 Notes: Essential Functions: The History of Art Department's Visual Resource Collection (VRC) maintains over 175,000 slides, photographs and digital images. The VRC circulates this collection to History of Art faculty, faculty from other Humanities and Fine Arts disciplines, students enrolled in seminars, upper division courses and those participating in University-sponsored outreach programs. Working under the general direction of the Visual Resources Collection (VRC) curators, the LA II will assist in all phases of VRC management, circulation and record keeping. Process new material for the collection, perform copystand photography, and prepare slides and digital images for classroom use. Assist in research and selection of new material for the collection. Perform visual editing of digital images using Photoshop software. Perform user advisory and circulation tasks, accession materials, perform computer entry (Mac and PC) of catalog information, and prepare various documents related to VRC records. Assist with the development and maintenance of the digital image collection, on-line course support and associated Web sites. Assist in inventory, shelf readings and physical reorganization of VRC materials. Oversee the VRC and student assistants in the absence of curators. Minimum Requirements: Background or undergraduate coursework in art, art history, photography or related humanities discipline. Excellent typing skills and proficiency with computer operating systems (MAC and PC). Competency in bibliographic searching skills. Ability to perform analog copy photography and knowledge of technologies and software needed for digital image production and Web design. Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with faculty, students and staff. Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the U.S. Department of Justice. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with audio-visual equipment and presentation. Library or visual resources experience with knowledge of filing, cataloging and circulation practices desirable.
