Reader Services Librarian in the Fine Arts Library
Harvard College Library

Working closely with and reporting to the Public Services Librarian and
Head of Reference, the Reader Services Librarian will manage the day-to-day
functions of the Circulation and Access Services unit within the Fine Arts
Library Book Collections, including the Rübel Asiatic Research Collection.
Supervises 3 full-time and two half-time library assistants.  Circulation
and Access Services responsibilities include: circulation desk operations
(including the hiring, training, and scheduling of student and casual
staff); oversight of reading rooms and HOLLIS online circulation functions;
reports and statistics; access requests; semester course reserves
processing and maintenance; book stacks management (including the hiring,
training, and scheduling of stack assistants); stack space planning;
processing collections for off-site storage; reproduction and rights
requests; tracing missing/lost materials; study carrel management; ILL
operations. 

The Reader Services Librarian will work with Public Services Librarian and
Head of Reference to formulate and implement policies, procedures, and
training materials. He/she will contribute reference assistance on a
regular basis and serve as a member of the Library's Public Services
Working Group. He/she will also work collaboratively with other Fine Arts
Library public services staff to enhance access & use of protected
collections, archival materials, uncataloged items, and Visual Collections
special collections. Will have an active role in the implementation and
training for HOLLIS II in the Fine Arts Library. Other projects and
committee work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent. Minimum of two to
three years working experience in a research library and familiarity with
Art History and/or Humanities research materials. Demonstrated management
and supervisory skills.  Must have excellent written and verbal
communication skills.  Must be comfortable and enjoy working with a wide
variety of Library users and have a strong, user-oriented service
philosophy.  Ability to work effectively in a team environment.  Ability to
provide quality reference assistance. Experience with electronic research
databases highly desirable. Experience with online integrated library
catalogs and circulation systems required.  Experience with basic desktop
and internet applications required. Flexibility, versatility, and the
ability to work under occasional pressure are essential.

 Appointment salary is dependent on qualifications.
