AMERICAN CRAFT COUNCIL
LIBRARY DIRECTOR
The American Craft Council is the premier organization dedicated to raising
awareness and appreciation of contemporary American craft in all media. The
library, which is a major program of the Council, responds to the
information and research needs of the Council's 28,000 members and others
with an interest in craft.
The library offers a comprehensive collection of print and visual
information on American craft, with an emphasis beginning in the 1940's.
The collections comprise over 5,000 books, more than 4,500 exhibition
catalogs, 250 periodicals and newsletters, and additional resource files
and visual media. While focused on modern craft, the collections also
support research in the related fields of design as well as applied and
decorative arts.
The library director is responsible for the administration, public
outreach, collection development, archives, cataloging, reference, and
supervision of 3 library assistants.
Qualifications include: ALA-accredited MLS; BFA in visual arts or BA in art
history desirable; 3 years relevant experience (art library, art subject
department, or museum library experience desirable); internet resources and
microcomputer technology proficiency; web page development experience;
excellent interpersonal and communications skills; and ability to work as
part of a team.
Minimum salary: $45,000 DOE.
