Position: Technical Services Librarian The Bard Graduate Center Library Organization: The Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture - a graduate school of Bard College - offers MA and Ph. D. programs. Courses address various aspects of the decorative arts, design, and cultural history of Western Europe and North America as well as of Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. The library collection comprises approximately 33,000 volumes of monographs, rare books, and bound periodicals. The library subscribes to nearly 200 periodicals. The staff is made up of 3 professionals, 1 library assistant, and student employees. This position reports to the Chief Librarian. Position Summary: Responsible for planning and coordinating library's technical services activities, original and copy cataloging monographic and serial materials in all formats and variety of languages, working with technical support to maintain smooth daily operation of the library systems. Assists with bibliographic and technology related instruction, regular reference work required. Establishes policies and procedures for special projects in consultation with the Chief Librarian. Works closely with librarians and library staff in planning library-wide operations and programs. Will be expected to have a variety of responsibilities as required due to the library's small staff size such as train staff on specific projects. The institution is interested in continuing its participation in NAF (through ArtNACO) and SCIPIO. Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS; a minimum of 2 years of recent cataloging experience; thorough knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures including AACR2, USMARC formats, LCSH, authority control, and LC classification; good computer skills. Experience with RLIN and automated library systems (Innovative Interfaces preferred) is essential. Background in art history or art library experience is desired, as well as working knowledge of 2 foreign languages.
