 Opportunities at Women s Studio Workshop

 WSW is an artist-run studio located in Rosendale, New York, 90 miles
north of New York City. Facilities include printmaking, papermaking,
artist s books, photography, letterpress, offset, and clay. Our programs
are designed to support artists in the various stages of their careers.
To that end we offer grant and fellowship opportunities, intensive
workshops, internships and studio rentals.

Call to New Jersey Artists
Pending funding from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, two six week
residencies will be available at WSW during the spring and summer of
2001. Artists working in printmaking, papermaking, photography, book
arts and clay are invited to apply for the opportunity to create a new
body of work or to edition a new artist s book. Residencies include a
$2,000 artist s stipend, travel money, housing, and unlimited studio
access. WSW encourages applications from emerging artists.
To apply, send a one page project description, resume, ten slides with a
slide script, and an SASE for return of slides. Deadline: Postmarked by
August 15, Notification will be made by October 1.

Emerging Artists
WSW s Emerging Artists Program invites five recent college graduates to
utilize all of the facilities at the Women s Studio Workshop during a
two week January residency. This is an opportunity to initiate work
outside of school, and become involved with a new community of artist
peers. Residents are encouraged to cross media, learn from each other,
and take advantage of WSW as a center of contemporary art activity.
WSW s facilities include professionally equipped studios for intaglio,
silkscreen, offset and letterpress printing, papermaking, photography,
and clay. The participation fee of $600 for a two week residency
includes housing and unlimited studio access. Basic materials such as
inks and chemicals are provided in each studio; exhaustible materials
must be purchased. Participants will be provided with an orientation to
each studio, and will receive feedback when desired, but are encouraged
to work independently on their own projects.
TO APPLY, please send a statement of what you plan to accomplish and
which studio you are primarily interested in, 10 slides of your work
with slide script, resume, and names of two people we can contact for
reference.
DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked by Nov 10, notification will
be made Dec 10.

Artist s Fellowships:
Fellowship opportunities are available in water based screen printing,
intaglio, photography, papermaking, letterpress and ceramic. Fellowship
awards are designed to provide artists with concentrated work time to
explore new ideas in a dynamic and cooperative community of women
artists, in a rural environment. Fellows have unlimited access to the
studio of their choice, and may work in two to eight week sessions from
September through June. Fellowship awards subsidize a portion of the
studio operating expenses. The cost to fellowship recipients is $200 per
week plus materials, (about one fifth the actual cost of the
fellowship), and includes on-site housing.

and length of fellowship, studio requested and an SASE for return of
materials.
DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked by Nov 1 for March - August
fellowships.

Studio Arts Interns:
Women s Studio Workshop is accepting applications for the Spring/Summer
Internship program. Interns work full time alongside the WSW artist
staff and with visiting artists, learning papermaking, print media, book
arts and arts administration. Interns also assist in the day to day
running of the organization, including general maintenance. Interns have
access to available studios during their free time to pursue their own
work. Off-site housing and a $100/month stipend is provided.

letters of recommendation and an SASE for return of slides.
DEADLINE: Postmark deadline is Nov 1 for internships beginning in Feb
2002.

Book Arts Grants:

Artists  Book Residency Grants
Residency Grants enable artists to produce a limited edition bookwork at
WSW. Working intensively in our studios for six weeks, selected artists
are involved in all aspects of the design and production of their piece.
On-site housing is provided for visiting artists. Each artist is
responsible for their own meals, and on weekdays everyone gathers for a
pot luck lunch. The grant includes a stipend of $1,800 for six weeks,
materials up to $450 and access to all studios.

Artists  Book Production Grants
Production Grants are for artists working off site. They are designed to
assist artists working in their own studios with the publication of
smaller scale projects. Funds cover production costs up to $750. These
grants are not intended for reissuing already published material, or as
partial funding for a larger project.
TO APPLY: applicants should submit a one page description of the
project, the medium(s) to be used to print the book, number of pages,
page size, edition size (at least 100 is preferred), a structural dummy,
materials budget, resume, 6 to 10 slides of recent work, S.A.S.E.  for
return of materials.
DEADLINE: Postmark deadline is November 15, notification will be made by
January 15.

Opportunity for Artists from the Mid Atlantic States
Pending funding from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation ARTIST AS CATALYST
2002, WSW will have an opportunity for art writers, art critics, and
artists working in artists  books, papermaking, printmaking,
photography, and clay. Residencies can be from one to six months,
scheduled from February 2002 through February 2003. Includes $3,000 a
month artist s stipend, housing, and unlimited studio access. WSW
welcomes projects which address the relationship between art and the
environment.
To apply: send a one page project description, resume, ten slides with a
slide script, proposed dates and length of residency, and an SASE for
return of slides.
DEADLINE: Postmark by November 1, notification will be made by January
15.
