ARLIS Colleagues:

I second what Peter Blank said! As the previous CAA Liaison, I was happy to
have Mary Williamson put together a wonderful session that was accepted for
the CAA conference in Toronto (in 1998??). She also did an enormous amount
of work to pull the session together and benefited in the same ways that
Peter mentions below. As Liaison it was very difficult to locate ARLIS/NA
members who have the time to work with CAA's rather byzantine schedule, can
afford the time and commitment to be an active participant in both ARLIS/NA
and CAA, and can afford to attend both conferences.

Participating in CAA is, an extremely rewarding experience -- especially for
those of us who work in academic and museum settings. I have a proposal to
offer for a special session for the 2001 CAA conference in Philly. It is a
proposal that will be co-sponsored by ARLIS/NA-GLIRT and CAA's affiliated
society named The Queer Caucus (formerly called the Gay and Lesbian Caucus).
I am keeping track of the deadlines for that conference and will submit the
proposal to the new ARLIS/NA CAA Liaison at the proper time, BUT, I hope
other ARLIS/NA members who are CAA members will submit a session proposal for
a two-hour session. ARLIS/NA needs to keep up its appearance at CAA - -a
tradition that has been going on since ARLIS/NA was founded!

Members of CAA include museum curators, museum administrators, university and
college professors and studio artists. And they need to keep hearing about
information resources, scholarly communication issues, technological
advances, artists books, and anything else we have to offer them! Let's keep
the tradition of scholarly input from librarians alive in CAA through our
affiliated society status!
