----------------------------Original message---------------------------- The Arts, Music and Recreation Division of the Rochester (NY) Public Library maintains a large picture file (and that's what we call it: the "Picture File"). We estimate that it now contains about half a million images. The file is added to on an ongoing basis by 2 part-time clerks who work on it exclusively - clipping, labelling, filing, weeding. Our sources are magazines, discarded books, books we order specifically in order to clip images for the Picture File, and calendars. (Staff and, from time to time, patrons donate calendars.)
